A Heavenly Head Spa Experience: Why We All Need a Friend Like Angie

There’s nothing like a bout of food poisoning or a stomach virus to knock you off your feet and interrupt your flow. After a two-day writing hiatus, I’m finally back, and I have something wonderful to share.

Let’s talk self-care. It’s something I don’t often indulge in, but my friend Angie is the queen of it. Recently, she planned a trip for the two of us to a head spa. When I heard “head spa,” my immediate thought was, Wait, you mean I get my hair washed while lying down? Yes, please!

First Impressions: Surprising Luxury

When we arrived, I was taken aback to find the spa nestled in a shopping center. From the outside, it looked like a nail salon. Angie, however, assured me that this was the place to be—she’s been getting her nails done there for years and refuses to go anywhere else.

Walking inside, I could see why. This wasn’t your average nail salon. The interior sparkled with high-end aesthetics: granites, white and mirrored finishes, stunning product displays, and every nail color imaginable. Despite the weekday evening crowd, every nail tech was busy with clients, and no one was left waiting.

But we weren’t there for nails. We were here for the head spa.

The Head Spa: A True Escape

The head spa experience started in a beautifully calming waiting area, though we didn’t wait long. We were promptly taken to a private room where we changed into plush terry bath wraps and tucked our clothes, shoes, and jewelry into generous-sized totes that stayed with us the entire time.

Now for the main event. The treatment took place on a heated massage table equipped with a connected wash basin (probably not the technical term, but you get the idea). I wish I’d brought my tripod to capture the experience because, truth be told, my eyes were shut in bliss the entire time.

Angie and I both opted for the 70-minute, $125 package. Here’s what it included:

  • Scalp massage
  • Face massage
  • Neck and shoulder massage
  • Arm and hand massage
  • Skincare routine with organic face mask
  • Head shampoo
  • Steaming hair restoration treatment
  • Blow dry (no styling)

Every minute of it was absolute heaven. The products were hydrating, cleansing, and smelled divine. The estheticians were skilled and attentive, and the equipment, lighting, and decor felt luxuriously high-end. Even the blow-dry station had a boutique-like quality to it.

And let me tell you, my hair has never been shinier.

The Cherry on Top

Just when I thought the pampering was over, it wasn’t. After getting dressed, we were escorted back to the waiting area for an herbal foot soak, a refreshing glass of iced water, a generous portion of fresh fruit, and a quick neck and shoulder massage.

I can honestly say I loved every aspect of the experience.

The Verdict

Would I recommend the head spa at Escape Nails & Spa in Midlothian, Virginia? Absolutely! (And no, I’m not affiliated with them—I’m just a very satisfied customer.) For $125, you get far more than your money’s worth in relaxation, pampering, and top-notch service. FYI, it doesn’t look like their website is updated yet with photos of their remodel and prices of their head spa service, but just take my word for it and call them to book an appointment.

In fact, if given the choice between the head spa and a full-body massage, I’d pick the head spa every time.

A Final Note: Find Your Angie

Beyond the spa itself, this experience was a reminder of something even more important: the value of friends who encourage us to treat ourselves. Angie’s little nudge reminded me that we work hard and deserve nice things now and then.

So here’s to self-care, shiny hair, and friends like Angie who know how to make life a little sweeter.

Thank you, Angie, for the reminder—and for being my friend!
