Finding My Style: A Journey of Fashion, Confidence, and Grace

Since starting this blog, I’ve touched on all the categories in my website menu except for one—fashion. That omission isn’t because I lack interest, but rather because I rarely have photos of myself (I’m usually the one behind the camera) and I feel like I don’t fit into any specific fashion category.

For years, my wardrobe revolved around corporate business casual. While I didn’t mind the dress standards, I can honestly say I don’t miss the effort of selecting outfits that fit within those guidelines. These days, my work attire is far more laid-back and comfortable while still professional. It’s a simpler approach that requires less time and energy—and I’m not mad about it.

Outside of work, my wardrobe is… a toss-up. I’ve had many of the same clothes for years, and they reflect an identity I’ve been questioning—a 50-something wife and mom, struggling with weight and finding her style again.

I’ve always been petite (aka “short”), and for most of my life, I wore single-digit sizes. But about seven years ago, a health issue brought me to my highest weight. Since then, I’ve been stuck between two choices: work hard to shed the extra pounds or work equally hard to accept my body as it is now. It’s a struggle I often voice to Patrick. I tell him I wish he had known me back when I was slim and trim. (Believe it or not, I was once a certified personal trainer with dreams of competing in a fitness contest at 50!) While I’d love to feel like the best version of myself again, writing this post has made me realize something: I want to work harder to reach a place where I feel comfortable in my own skin.

As I figure out my goals, I’m also exploring my sense of style. I’m drawn to comfortable graphic tshirts, wide leg jeans, and boho looks, especially flowy clothing pieces and unique jewelry. I know I won’t overhaul my entire wardrobe overnight, but I’m excited to add pieces that reflect this aesthetic and continue to dream on websites like Three Bird Nest, Natural Life, and Anthropologie (I am not affiliated with these stores and do not receive any compensation for sharing them. I simply love their styles and wanted to pass them along in case you’re also looking for inspiration!).

Ultimately, fashion is about more than trends or categories. It’s about feeling good in what we wear and embracing grace as we work toward feeling comfortable in our own bodies. My journey is far from over, but I hope it inspires you to wear what makes you happy and to give yourself permission to grow—both inside and out.

Let’s give ourselves grace as we navigate the intersection of fashion, confidence, and self-love.
