From Plant Killer to Propagation: My Journey

I wouldn’t call myself a gardener or someone with a “green thumb,” but I do have vivid memories of my grandmother, Nanny June, and her incredible ability to nurture houseplants. Her home was always filled with greenery, and she made it seem effortless. My plant journey, on the other hand, hasn’t always been so smooth—I’ve killed more plants than I care to admit!

But something has changed recently. Over the past several months, I’ve managed to keep a few plants not only alive but thriving. I’m not doing anything extraordinary—just giving them adequate lighting and watering them once a week. Yet, for some reason, it’s working, and I feel a newfound sense of accomplishment with every new leaf or sign of growth.

My latest venture into the world of plants has been trying my hand at propagation. I was skeptical about it working, but to my surprise, it did! I now have three baby plants ready to be potted, and I’m planning to give them to family and friends. It feels rewarding to nurture something and then share it with others—it’s like carrying on a little piece of Nanny June’s legacy.

I’m not entirely sure what has shifted—whether it’s luck, patience, or just paying more attention—but I like to think Nanny June would be proud of my progress. To all the self-proclaimed plant killers out there, don’t give up! You might just surprise yourself, like I did. 🌱
