Destin, Florida, holds a special place in my heart, and I’m excited to share why. In September 2020, Patrick and I decided to pack up the car with Lauren, Abi and our two dogs (Bear and Teddy), and make the long 14-hour drive to this coastal gem. It had been over 25 years since I had visited Destin and about 10 years for Patrick. As much as the area had grown and changed, one thing remained the same — the stunning white powder sand and crystal-clear water that makes Destin unforgettable.

That week, we fully embraced being tourists. We explored the bustling harbor boardwalk, rode go-carts, dined at trendy restaurants, and the girls even went parasailing! It was a relaxing and fun escape, but the most unforgettable moment happened at Norriego Point Park. It was there, surrounded by the beauty of the beach and the serenity of the water, that Patrick surprised me by asking me to marry him. I’ll never forget that moment.

Finding your person later in life is something truly special. By then, you’ve lived enough to know that marriage isn’t a fairytale; it’s a partnership filled with ups and downs that requires hard work, patience, and understanding from both people. Patrick is my partner and best friend, and I’m beyond grateful to have met him and to share this life together.

Destin became even more significant to us when we chose to return the following year to get married. That story deserves its own post, so stay tuned for more about how we celebrated our love in one of my favorite places.
